I had to choose a university in the height of the pandemics, when offices and colleges were closed. This made distance learning look especially attractive. I had a look at a few different programs and I found the syllabus of MDS to be the most structured one. I appreciated that HSE paid special attention to the basics of mathematics, where I had a few gaps. I’ve calculated that by the end of our courses, we have worked on more than 200 problems and projects of various scales!

I studied the offer thoroughly and pre-selected a couple of Russian programs, and also the University of Michigan and Imperial College London.
I liked MDS better because it includes SQL and a complete course of Mathematical Statistics, which is very relevant for those who haven't studied Mathematical economics before. Also, their admission campaigns twice a year were quite convenient.
The only regret I have is that I didn’t join the Faculty of Computer Science earlier and I’m happy to be their student now.

STUDENT FAQ
Our program is designed for students without a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. As a general rule, our students have little to none experience with programming and they learn from scratch.
You can study any time you like. All course materials are pre-recorded and we don’t have any synchronised exams.
Our entrance exam is based on high school Mathematics and some Informatics. We only aim to test basic knowledge and overall math culture. Rest assured, before the exams we will host a series of webinars to help you prepare for the exam.
Unfortunately, no. You need to have a Bachelor’s / Master’s / Specialist degree in order to apply.
Our Master’s degree takes 2 academic years to complete, this duration is fixed.
B1 is the minimal level for you to be comfortable with our program. Of course there’s no problem if you make mistakes. If you feel uneasy about asking questions in English out loud, you are always welcome to write in the webinar chat.
Of course you can! Every 2 weeks approximately there is a webinar where you can discuss the nuances of the course with your teachers and ask questions.
Tuition fees are split in 4 payments, before each semester. You make your first payment as you sign your contract before enrolling.
You don’t have to come to campus, all our communication with the students is done online. Your thesis defence will also be online.
Unfortunately, no. You can try again only if you could not sit the exam due to technical malfunction.
